Dolomites

We thought yesterday’s scenery couldn’t possibly get any better, but….The Dolomites, known as the ‘Rocky Mountains of Europe, sure gave it a huge nudge today. We travelled through kilometre after kilometre of very high rocky peaks, most having snow of some kind on the tops or in the crevices. It was just amazing! The frustrating thing was that often the best photo opportunity was on the other side of the bus, but we managed nicely despite that. Still in the Dolomite area, we stopped at a little town at the bottom of the mountains, Cortina d’Ampezzo, which is Italy’s most famous ski resort. The town was very picturesque, why wouldn’t it be with a back drop like that. We wandered around this town for awhile, taking photos and having coffee and cake, before heading off again towards Venice.  We stopped at a winery called Enoteca Veneta  a short way out of Venice where wine tasting took place along with some antipasto.  We then carried on to Venice arriving late afternoon. Tonight we have a Venetian night out where we will travel by water taxi along the Grand Canal to a Venetian Restaurant for dinner.  Then we will see Venice at night with all the lights blazing. We’re looking forward to that, and what tomorrow in Venice holds for us. We loved it when we were here some years ago, so it should all be good.
